what kind of buffer to you have? Is it just an orbital buffer or is it a high speed one like a DeWalt? there are conversion kits that adapt pads from like a5/16 shaft to a 5/8 shaft. (if i remember the sizes well enough)

I like Meguirs foam pads or 3M foam pads quite a bit. Wool pads are nice too, but messy and if you run em till the material is dry you can swirl up a finish fast.

foam pads are nice. I like the Meguires W8000 and W9000 quite a bit (my numbers might be off... i havent purchased any in a while - the yellow and tan pads). they work great and come in 8 and 6 inch sizes. I use a DeWalt DW849 polisher at about 1400rpms with good results. i like 3m liquids a ton as well. good stuff.
