This isn't about my Ranger's headlights, since they still look as good as the day I bought it. But my Dad has a Dodge Stratus with the plastic headlights. Well they are yellowed and fogged over, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any ways of cleaning them. I have read around the internet on different methods, but I was wondering if anyone has personally tried anything to clean headlights that are messed up as described above. I think some of the older Rangers have headlights that are prone to this problem, so if anyone has cleaned them to the point of looking CLOSE to new, please let me know.
I know Zach once mentioned something about cleaning the lights on his Splash, so maybe he will chime in.

 

I fixed up my sister in laws neon. I used a cheap buffing pad on an electric drill with some polishing compound. I see them at sears or Harbor Freight. If you have seen the commercials for Mothers Power Ball- that's basically it. In fact, the power ball should do it and is available anywhere lately.

 

Yep, just use the right polish and it'll work fine with a powerball.


Which model of mothers works best?

 

I've never used Mothers. I have some 3m compound. Fine cut and Machine polish. You can use the finest grit for plastic. I used a wool bonnet that goes on my electric drill. It's about a 4-5" diameter. I got in from Sears for about $8.

 

well i was using the meduim polish from mequiars and had that on a polisher and did that then i did fine then glaze then sat there with scratch-x and rubed them for a while then waxed them up, they look so much better now..there acully is plastic polish. i acully used FLITZ on my XLT back when i had stock headlights and it worked really well i liked the paste flitz

 

I tried a little rubbing compound by hand last night, I could see some difference, but I knew I would be in for a LONG night if I kept that up. So I guess I will try buffing is with a drill. I have read about wet sanding them and stuff like that on various other sites, so I kinda hope it doesn't come to that. I will give the buffing a try this weekend. Thanks guys.

^^^Yeah that looks really good. I guess that is what I will do then. I assume that I can get the meguiars polish at an autoparts store? And at the end when you say you "waxed them up", you just used regular wax at that point?
