My 97 Cobra Detail
My 97 Cobra Detail
Ok guys, last Saturday, went to my buddy's house to wash and detail his 97 Cobra Vert. It had been sitting since May 10' awaiting a new tranny. he finally got one and his car needed a detailing BAD! His paint literally felt like fine grit sand paper. If you rubbed your finger across the paint, it sounded like it too.
I ran into a few problems that I could not do some of the things I would have liked to do, so before you say anything, let me explain. This guy lives on a dirt road, so I did NOT shine the wheels. It would have looked like crap with one drive over the road. Secondly, the carpet. I didnt have anything in my arsenal of products to tackle his carpet, its was pretty bad. other than that, the car turned out great! The paint is NICE and smooth! I had to throw my clay bar away after getting done with this car!
My Process:
After we did the whole exterior I wiped down all the exterior plastic with Meguiar's Natural Shine interior shine.
Then we tackled the interior which consisted of
we finished everything by cleaning the glass with Invisible glass cleaner and giving the car a final wipedown with a soft Microfiber Towel.
Sorry no before pics

I was not really prepared in the taking pics department. My camera is at home, I have better pics on it ill get up. The ones with the date are his pics.

My Process:
- Rinsed the car extremely well
- hand washed twice (changed out water in bucket)
- rinsed again really well
- pulled into basement (it started to rain)
- dried really well with microfiber towels.
- Claybarred with Meguiar's Clay Bar kit (you wouldnt believe the stuf that came off of his paint)
Next we used the Meguiar's 3-Step Deep Crystal System to prepare paint. - used Meguiar's Paint Cleaner on every pody Panel using Microfiber applicator
- Used Meguiar's Paint Polish on every body panle using Microfiber applicator
- Used Meguiar's Cleaner Carnauba Wax
- Used Meguiar's NXT 2.0 Liquid Wax
(To clarify, we handed every panel of the car at a time. We started on hood and used all the above products, thenmoved to the next panel)
After we did the whole exterior I wiped down all the exterior plastic with Meguiar's Natural Shine interior shine.
Then we tackled the interior which consisted of
- wiping all interior panels down with degreaser cleaner
- vacuuming with shopvac
- shining with Meguiar's Natural Shine interior shine

thanks trent, it should with all that work! Im so impressed with the clay bar. I mean I've used it before, but not on paint that acutally needed it like his paint did!
I'm so tired too. We spent 7 hours on his car Saturday. Then I spent 7 hours on my truck yesterday (but didnt take many pics as ya'll seen on my FB).

I didnt take that many, I was too busy. This weeks pic contest sucked so I didnt do any for it (I wasnt about to get my truck wet after this)

he wants some chrome cobras for it. and yeah it needs lowering and and new carpet
The Clay makes the day...I don't wax anything with out claying it first.
I first used Clay Magic, it was as large a bar of Zest. The Meguiar's kit is a bit smaller like the size of motel bar of soap. Its worth the time to bring up the shine

Yeah, the bar starts getting dingy at about the forth wax, (each car, not the same one) I try twice a year with a good 6 hour detail. Its not the time doing it that gets me, its taking out of the garage afterwards.......
sunshots! i bet it still looks raped, dirt/dust and a single bucket wash, plus all the other times its been washed/waxed with contaminants. megs white ftw. only thing i wouldnt have done is lsp with the nxt 2.0, used it multiple times before moving on and it always seems to attract considerably more dust then other sealants/waxes even if the car doesnt move overnight.
i did my integra with mothers steps by hand once... then i got a 7424

I really like that Cobra, tell him to ditch that ghey shifter and keep the wheels. That car is a straight shooter. Great color and wheels especially that tan top. I really hate that VA makes yall run tags on the front and back its so stupid just ruins a great car.
yep, i think even with two buckets it would not help, trust me the dust is not good stuff
I hate looking at my truck in the sun, makes me sick to the stomach on how bad it needs buffing.
