Need a source for screw-on rear wheel well flares. Or will the Ford Ranger products work? Will be used to cover rust, not for oversize tires.

 

I really hope that your not just covering the rust. I hope that you did something to try and remove the rust.

 

A year ago I knocked of the worst of the exterior rust. A phosphate coating was applied to the exterior surface, and then everything was covered with Zeibart rust proofing. After that I applied a Loctite rust converter to the interior joint through 7 access holes in the bed wheel well. The rustproofing was applied indirectly to this area prior to my application of the rust converter. This was not executed as well as I'd hoped. But I still held the desperate hope that I could at least slow down the rust and hide it on the exterior with the black Zeibart applied in the pattern of a fender flare, all cheaply relative to restorative bodywork.

I didn't want to spend the money for bodywork and painting.

It didn't work very well, but here comes another winter. The rust is worse now.

I would like to find a "more aggressive" rust converter or rust isolator to apply before I install the flares. In any case, these screw on flares will improve the appearance while I continue to ponder how to re-address the actual rust in an economical manner.

If you can recommend a product that converts or isolates the rust, please let me know. I don't think the Loctite product is that good.

Try rustolem rust reformer with a coat of primer and cheap paint to remove and seal the paint.

 

Thank you ArcticWolf. Turns out the rust is worse than I thought so am going to get estimates for repair.

 

If you can find a set of good fenders to have repainted, it would likely be cheaper in the long run.

 

How's the rest of the truck, the parts you can't see ?
Cab mounts, rocker panels, undercarriage, the inner fender wells after the plastic has been removed etc.
