This little motor really doesn't qualify as NHRA material, But none the less its one of the most reliable, fuel efficient ever put into a pickup. With a little care, and regular maintenance it will last you many many years to come.

Although there are a couple of mods you could perform:

To get the most umph, consider opening up the throttle by the throttle cable mod. Just use the search tool in the forums. "Throttle Cable Mod".

Hows your exhaust? Ever consider a set of headers? Youd be suprised of how much a good set of headers, and a catback exhaust can "Open one up". Just don't ever consider removing Cats. Its not only illegal(under fed law), but it is a vital componote to your engines performance.

.50 Cent mod!
Buy a for sale sign. Sale your 2.3 and buy a Fox Body 5.0 mustang!!!

why would i even consider a fox body mustang? i own a corvette, i would eat 5.0's for lunch

i'm not saying i want to run 300 MPH with this motor, it would be nice to have a little extra punch

First off, from you sig, you have a different family of motor. Second, they don't make rwd platform headers for this motor yet. Third, I don't think his truck is old enough to have stretched the throttle cable yet.

For a Header look at a MSDS. They make a pretty decent one.

you can also get a cold air intake for it. autozone has a build your own kit made by Spectre. they dont make it for the ranger but you can make it work. i put one on my 07 stx 2.3 and holy sh_t did it ever give it a boost and a HELL of a V8 roar. i had to swap out vacuum hoses though since the supplied on would not fit on my factory vacuum end. i just wound up using some leftover tubing that came with my bed cover as a drain line. also if you run it like i did then you dont have room for the large cone filter. but it you take out the rest of the air box you might have enough room for the large one. i also had to cut the back off of the factory air box cover that had the MAF sensor attached to it since the sensor will not fit in the adapter you can get with the kit.. i just bolted the filter mount onto the other side of the piece i cut off and mounted the cone filter to it. if i had to guess id say i have around 160hp to be modest but the way it runs it could be more. heres a pit of what i did and how it turned out.

A K&N air filter, cams by Cower or Cosworth, header, 2 1/4 pipe after the cat, high flow muffler & maybe lower gearing and maybe a turbo or supercharger if the budget permits

I'd be real curious as well, see if I can break 90 hp lol. Also see when the power actually falls off, just going by sound it starts sounding like nails on a chalkboard just over 4k rpm.

My 95 has a header, did they come with that as a stock option or was that put on afterwards?

Many posts have suggested a set of headers...or in the case of a 4 cylinder engine, a header, do you have a particular one in mind. Does anyone know if the "Shoenfeld F235V 2.3 Ford Pinto Modified header, sold by Speedway fits?

The Lima or Pinto 2.3 is an entirely different engine than the Mazda or Duratec 2.3. Nothing is interchangeable, so no... They won't fit.

Thanks very much Apexkeeper...I had learned that there are 2 different 2.3's....the Lima and the Duratec. I didn't realise the pinto was a Lima. I've heard MSDS makes a header for the Duratec but there are issues with the CEL warning light post installation.
