33's and regear with a manual?
I have an 08 ranger single cab shortbed, with the manual trans and 3.73 out back. I have the opportunity to get a 5.5 fabtech lift kit slightly used very very cheap. If i got it I would most likely run 33's. If I regeared would these tires still be to much for the little duratech? I have to commute over a decent sized mountain to go to skool everyday so I would pass up the deal in the interest of not bogging out.

4.88's and 33's? Your on crack!
4.56's would be fine. I am seeing around 20MPG with 4.10's and 33's and a 2.5L on the highway. And about 16 in the city.

AND you evidently didn't read what Adam wrote....he's got a 2.5 4 banger w/ 4.10s and 33's.... OR what the original poster said...he said nothing about little on road mainly off road anything....

Stone, 4.10s and 31s hurts my feelings I cant imagine 3.73s with 31s. Only reason I said 4.88s for offroading is the 4 bangers dont put out enough power to spin the tires in very thick stuff. With 4.88s and 33s top speed might be 50mph but 1st-3rd gear would be coming. I would still say 4.10s-4.56s maybe even 4.30s. Your 2.3 duratech has alot more power then my lima 2.3

if you wanna run 33s and 4.10s and get 16MPG in the city you might as well run a 4.0L because thats what they get. If you're not getting 24-30 MPG in a 4 cylinder, especially a duratec, then you are geared too high. I know one person running a 2.3L LIMA, 31s, and 4.56s and he averages 26MPG, so for 33s definitely 4.88s, and for 35s run 5.13s.
