cross bolt on 8.8 3.73 rear end

On my 98 ranger with the 8.8 3.73 differential. I saw a video where the cross bolt on the 3.73 and higher required grinding of a ring rear tooth to remove the cross bolt.

Is this true???

cross bolt or shaft

Any one ??? some one must know, can the cross shaft through the spider gears {pinion gears} be removed with out grinding tooth on ring gear as an alternative to removing differential case and ring gear ???

Do you have an open differential or L/S? I'm guessing you have an open.. if so the answer is no you do not have to grind any gears to remove that bolt. I have 4.10's and didn't have to.

I don't believe that is the case until you get to 4.88s.

I'm pretty sure the guy that installed my 4.56s had to do it. Or you can get the notched cross pin.

Could be, it's been a long time since I did all that gear research. I know it had to be done on mine.
