1990 Trannys 4.0 4x4

Does anyone know about the two different manual transmissions that were installed in the 1990 4x4, 4.0l ??? One has a pan, M50D-R1, the other seems a mystery to many people. Toyo Koygo 83-87, has a cast ribbed bottom cover and is rounded. It has a fill and drain bolt, 23 mm, and Im pretty sure it would take 80/90 gear lube, that is " squeezed in " from bottle (old school), up to fill hole. The other common tranny takes ATF !!
Thanks and hope to hear some suggestions or info.
Tim

If you have the Toyo Koygo 5-speed then yes, use 80w gear oil
The Toyo Koygo will indeed have separate drain and fill plugs, M5OD only one fill plug.

And M5OD does use ATF Mercon

On drivers door sticker TRANS code will be "5" for Toyo Koygo
"M" for M5OD-R1

Example of door sticker here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...le_codes.shtml
At the bottom of sticker is TRANS code, and AXLE code if interested
