Have a 2004 Ranger edge 4x2 w/3.0. Pulled trans to rebuild as 2nd gear is grinding. Sure enough synchro is bad. Has a special multi-piece design. Went to order parts to rebuild and discovered parts for this design are all gone? Told by one rebuilder that they tear apart cores to find servicable parts. Can't believe there isn't some work around out there. Anyone have some info??

 

Hard to believe but checked a few places and yes, some of the M5R1 synchro parts are not available(out of stock)

The M5R1 was pretty bullet proof so I guess there was just not a high demand for rebuild parts

I did see some "kits" that looked like they included all the synchro parts but $$$

The one problem that the M5R1 did have was the input shaft gear/bearing failing which shouldn't hurt the synchro parts, maybe you can find one for sale "as is" for parts, but not sure of the crossover years for parts in these

 

Thanks for your thoughts, but all the kits I've found don't include multi-piece design 1-2 synchro rings. One supplier listed it for $600+ but has no stock. Planned to replace front bearing as part of my rebuild.
