The parts stores are correct you will need the new manual hubs and the conversion kit. The conversion kit consist of the correct hub nuts for the manual hubs (the auto hub nuts are totally different and wont work with manual hubs).
Here is the parts you will need:
Hubs: (I have been running the Mile Marker brand for 2 years now with no problems)

Conversion Kit:

$300 is far fetched for the parts.
Swapping manual hubs is super easy to do. Pull the old automatic hub off, remove the nuts, put new nuts on, install new hub. Remember, it takes a special socket to get the auto hub nuts off and another special tool to put the manual hub nuts on. Most auto parts stores (ie: O'Reilly Auto Parts, AutoZone, etc.) have these sockets. They run about $10 each. While you are at the auto parts store, grab yourself a repair manual. They are pretty detailed about removing and installing the lock outs...
If you need anymore help with them, shoot me a PM...

I would call around to some offroad stores and ask them about prices on warn manual locking hubs for your truck...and tell them that you have auto locking hubs and they will tell you will need a set of the convertion nuts...mine all together for my 97 was $200 for the hubs and $30 i think for the nuts...at the end with tax was just under $250...I like the manual because they seem and I'm sure are stronger but being able to not have to get out in the snow or rain with auto would be nice! good luck on the project! remeber to not tighten the nut down all the way...you got untill its on snug and then a 1/4 back....

I'm doing the same project as beaverpilot but was going to go with the warn standard locking hub. Aside from the hubs, I would just need two of the bags that Thumper listed (aside from the tools)? Its a 97 Mazda B4000. I'm really having difficulty finding out exactly what needs to be replaced and what parts I need to buy. Thanks a lot guys. Sorry to hijack your thread Beaverpilot
