Thanks dude. I don't plan on much more exterior work.

Maybe some 32x11.5's instead of the 31's but I dig the way she sits now. Not too high, but not low either.

Pretty much from here, it's engine/trans work.

programmer, headers, pulleys, exhaust, intake, roller rockers.

Then LSD'd explorer rear end (I have the 8.8 4.10 already) 4 wheel drive and it's done.

Oh!

Ok, if I choose to go with just doing the output shaft, will any 4wd output shaft/tail fit? 3.0 only? 4.0? 98+? Will they all mount up to the manual tcase?

More info!

I'm running a Borg 1350 from a 80's bronco II, got if for "free" with 2 front shafts.

I understand why everyone says they are a weaker case, but hell, they are CHEAPER to get, break one, just pickup another for 25-75bucks. Its not like he's gonna run 35s and a 5.0, or go hardcoring offroading.

The front shaft is a slip yoke, but since its being used with an IFS, its a fixed position.

Just need to shorten the front shaft about 1.5inches

You're truck is an auto right? They have to be from an auto but I don't think it matters which one engine wise. I think it still has to be the 5r55e for the output shaft though.

Very true. Not to mention they are easier to find in manual form as well!

that is not true he could get a 1354 out of a 90 or newer ranger then change the front out put shaft or get a differnt drive shaft. I got my manual tcase out of a 90 ranger and yes it is a 1354. there are trucks with manual tcases from 95-01 esp the 93-97 there are a ton with manual tcases.

I could get you a tcase out of an explorer but idk how much it is and it would need to be shipped.

I wasn't talking about Rangers. Believe me, I know what years of rangers had manual cases too, and what model the cases were. I've logged many hours researching this stuff.

So if you'd realize my statement was saying what years of explorers had manual cases, then yes what I said still stands true.

So, as long as it's a 5r55e, the tail/output shaft will work?

What models/years came with that trans?

5r55e came with the 4.0. 5r44e came with the 3.0. I'm not sure if the tailshafts are different but I know that the bellhousing for the transmissions are different. 98+ autos I'm pretty sure were the 5rXXe series.

I'm not an expert on the auto's, sorry. To be safe I'd get the tail shaft from the same type of tranny thats in your truck. The extension housing can come from any auto though.

Ok. extension housing from any auto 4x4.

Output shaft from a 3.0 4x4 of any year.

To make sure I have minimum downtime, I'm going to buy the output shaft from a 3.0 4x4 along with the housing.

Then buy another 3.0 auto 2wd trans.

Build that one so if something goes wrong, I don't lose my only car.

Well, honestly, if you're going to do that I'd just buy the 4x4 tranny.

I rebuilt mine originally into a 4wd tranny. Which worked great, for like 2 secs

Turns out my intermediate shaft speed sensor wasnt reading anything, and the truck would try to stay in 2nd gear instead of dropping to 1st

so then I cashed out and got a junk yard 4wd tranny instead

This is where I got mine. Then I sold my stock tranny for $400.

http://www.smartpartsauto.com/manual...5r1_mazda.html

I know thats for a manual. But I believe a company called Kormex sells the autos.
