02 ranger "whine"noise

Hello, I have a 02 ranger 4x4 4.0l at. It has been cold, daily highs around 15-20 degrees. I noticed when it turned cold I have a "whine" somewhere under the truck. It is not the timing chains and not rpm related. To me it seems like it could be the torque conv. or something in the tranny. It only occurs under low speed conditions and first or second gear. I had a Ford tech go for a drive with me today, and he really doesnt know what it could be. Just wondering if anyone else might have heard of anything like this. I hope I dont need a tranny.
Oh, once I drive for about 10 minutes it wont do it anymore.
