Transmission Shop - Any recommendations?
I have a 2003 Ranger FX4 Level 2 - Manual transmission (and the coveted manual transfer case). I think I've lost a bearing in my transmission. It's growling on most shifts and, now, sometimes when you're coasting in first gear with the clutch in (parking lot speeds) Anyway, I need a transmission shop to diagnose and tell me how much I have to sink into this thing to get it running right. (just put in a new clutch slave, clutch, etc last week)
I live in Vancouver, Wa and want to know if anyone in this area has a solid recommendation for a transmission shop (Portland/Vancouver metro area). Thanks.

Heard back from the dealership...they gave me $50 in store credit as a 'sorry' for me having to bleed my own clutch...since they couldn't manage to do it properly.
Also heard back from the transmission shop I chose. The nose of the input shaft where it rides in the pilot bearing is galled up. They said it was consistent with smacking the nose of the input shaft on the edge of the pilot bearing when putting the transmission back in. So, I'm sure it's the dealership's fault but there is no way they'll stand behind that. I'm still going to talk to them about it...for sure! Anyway, transmission shop said the best fix for mine since it wasn't that bad was to polish up the nose of the input shaft, remove the now damaged pilot bearing and replace it with a custom machined bushing. He's done several this way over the years and has never had one come back. So far, I like the shop. We'll see how it turns out tomorrow or Thursday. I'll keep you posted and give a shout out to the shop if I like their work.
