Whats a good price on having ring and pinions installed ?

Whats a good price to have 2 ring and pinions installed ? I was going to do them myself with Griggs helping but I also found a guy that is a good friend of my brothers who owns a 4x4 shop down in Richmond. He said he would do everything for $200 each axle, I supply the gears. Even if i do them myself I still need the bearings pressed on and off which a local shop said they would do for $40 an axle. So even to do them myself will cost me $80.

Is $400 to setup 2 ring and pinions a good price ?

so does the mean you just drive the truck there and it gets done? if so that is a good price.

i had it quoted 300 just for the rear on mine.

sort of, the rear axle is going to be my 31 spline explorer axle which I am giving to them in the bed of the truck. Then when i get it home i am going to put the rear axle in myself. The front they are taking out and putting back in.

Thats what I am thinking. I really love working on my truck but something this important for $320 over what its going to cost me to do it myself. i kind of just want to let a pro do it.

I might even pull the front axle and put it back when he's done. I wrote it down here somewhere but i thought he said if i pull the front axle he would do the front for $150. Then that would only cost me $270 more then what it would cost me to do it myself. because a local shop wants $40 per axle to press the bearings on and off if i do it myself.

its pretty easy to remove the front axle.

pop the left and right upper ball joint on each spindle
remove the driveshaft
pop the CVs out of the diff the right side will come all the way out without unbolting the diff, the left side just get loose

unbolt the diff wiggle it around and have someone else pull out the left CV, once that is done drop the diff out

the CVs can stay in the truck. (but you cant drive it)

Is that all you have to do to get the CV's off the diff just POP them out, No bolts or anything ? I know the ones on F150's are bolted to the diff. I was wondering what was holding them in when I did the RCD.

its jsut a clip and the clip comes uncliped with a little bit or prying. then they slide right out. no bolts.

What shop in Richmond told you $200 ?????? I've been getting prices from $500 up just to switch out the ring and pinion onto a LSD and install for just the rear axle.

I had it out in about 3 hours. I broke 2 T-30 bits trying to get the driveshaft off. If it was not for that I would have done it faster.
