Throw out bearing noise.
The slave cylinder is bolted to the back of the bellhousing so doesn't spin
To engage the clutch you have to push in on the 'fingers' of the pressure plate that holds the clutch disc against the flywheel
Pressure plate is spinning at engine RPMs
Slave 0 RPMs
Pressure plate minimum 700RPMs
The throw out bearing sits on the end of the slave, when you press down on the clutch pedal the slave expands pressing the throw out bearing against the pressure plate to release pressure on the clutch disc, throw out bearing allows the 0 RPM slave to put pressure on the 700 RPM pressure plate
If throw out bearing is starting to go bad it will make a noise when clutch pedal is depressed
It can last awhile like this, but is going out
You do have to pull transmission out to replace it, so same as doing a full clutch job

ok you are confirming my suspicions, it just started yesterday. i just looked a picture the throw out bearing is attached to the slave cylinder, correct? I got new slave and master about 3 years ago from orielly's the throw out was attached to master so it's under warranty. That master i got from them started leaking after about 18 months and now the throw out bearing goes out WTF!

There is a you tube video on replacing the slave cylinder/throw out bearing from a guy who also bought parts from O'Reillys.... The warranty replacement was a much better design... I bought mine there and it was also the better design... The video made replacing it look pretty easy and boy that was wrong... I fought with frozen transmission bolts, disconnecting the old slave from the lines, bleeding the system, and getting the transmission back up and in...
Ford could have put the slave cylinder on the outside but they chose to make it very labor intensive..

Internal slaves actually last longer and are more problem free than external.
I am old and remember well having to deal with external slaves, like carbs and distributors, good riddance to problem prone devices.
Internal slave should last the life of the clutch disc, and 95%, if not higher, do, so a non-issue for most
Replacing Throw out bearing for either internal or external slave would still require dropping the transmission
Carbs were also easier, for most to work on, doesn't mean carb is better than fuel injection, which requires almost 0 maintenance
Same for distributors, no distributor is way way...........way better

I'm guessing you're in your late 50's early 60's....
Maybe even my age.

I'm 67 years young... Rebuilt my "salvage" 1997 Ranger then a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon GT this summer ...plus doing brake and body work on my family's cars...
Yep a little stiff in the morning but I have too many things to get done in my life and too little money to have someone else do things for me :)
My kids sit and wait for someone else to "solve" their problems and complain about how they ache..
I'll keep going until I no longer can...

Exactly, I've read a few reviews on those aftermarket slave cyl. To know that a motorcraft is the best solution.....along with the throw out bearing.....it never pays to skimp on parts
