98 2wd rear axle swap

My dumbass brother powerslid into a curb and destroyed his entire rear axle assembly on his 98 XLT ranger.

So I went to the graveyard and looked it over. No other damage that I can see, the frame isn't bent, the mounts are all fine, the shackles appear fine, etc. It appears to just be a straight junkyard swap. I've done rear ends, but not on rangers, any particular words of advice or things to watch out for?

As I understand it, he has an open 7.5 with a ratio of 3.73, but any 7.5 or 8.8 with a 3.73 ratio from 1993 - 2008 will work as a direct swap, correct?

Thanks folks, I appreciate the advice.

Thats correct.

You can also use an Axle from an explorer with minimal modification. They're a stronger axle and the 95-01(i believe) have disc brakes.

Given the nature of the collision (he's stupid) I'm not inclined to give him much of an upgrade, just a quick and easy swap out.

Thanks very much, just wanted to get my facts straight before heading to Crazy Rays.
