lets talk about clutches!!!!!!!!!

ok well since i bet the living hell out of my clutch with towing and pulling trees and pulling out stumps and generally just ripping around spinning the tires. i killed my stock replacement in around 50k. also it was never right from the start.

so.... my clutch is slipping in 4th and 5th with it put the floor. still drivable just annoying.

im looking for a clutch. that is a hell of alot better than a stock one, but not going to kick me in the face when im off road.

i have been looking at the spec 2+ clutch.
THIS ONE

its pretty pricey but i have head good thing about it.

what else is out there that would be a similar clutch just not as expensive.

also does anyone make a lighter flywheel for our trucks?

plz i beg you dont fill this thread with crap. i want real serious info.

thanks

Summit racing would be the first place I would call. They have tons of stuff. I don't know about light
weight flywheels for the ranger but I know they can make a hell of a difference in most
cars

I have run both a Spec Stage 2+ as well as a Centerforce Dual Friction. The Spec was a nice clutch, was a little grabby but not bad, still good street manors but had a stiffer pedal than stock. The Centerforce is what I am currently running and it is the nicest clutch I have ever driven. Very smooth engagement no matter what speed or gear. The dual friction works great and grips nice and strong. It was far from a cheap clutch but so far I am very happy with it, only think left to find out is how long it will last.

As long as it DOES NOT use organic material you should be golden. If it uses Kevlar it should last forever... IF you don't slip it for a long period of time. If a Kevlar clutch gets hot it will literally melt and fall out of the bell housing in chunks. Not good. A ceramic clutch will stand up to slipping it alot and hardly wear. They tend to last a very long time. So if your going to be doing alot of technical off roading and you need to slip the sucker, get a ceramic clutch. I would lean more towards that then the Kevlar, but that's more of a personal preference for me.

Just pull your flywheel out and have a shop lighten it for you.. they can drop a pound or two out of it I'm sure - I dont know the specifics or how expensive it can be, but I do know it can be done! Maybe find a 4x4 shop or custom fabrication shop that may be able to do it for ya! I was very tempted to do this with my truck, but didnt ever get around to it then..

what would you say would be a better clutch for towing and wheeling?

i know thats a ****y combo to have together but i will give up some wheeling if my clutch will last longer towing. because i beat the hell out of it. plus the center force is 100 dollars cheaper

I would choose the Centerforce for towing and wheeling. Its just an all around better clutch in my opinion. Why are you looking for a new flywheel? I would just pull your current one and have it reground.

I had Spec clutches in two cars now, thought they were junk. The first one would slip and never grab right, even after massive amounts of bleeding the slave by the book, and any other way. The other was ok, but didn't have many miles on it before I sold it.

I would just slap in a stock clutch and call it a day. Don't get a lighter flywheel, not good for low speed situations.

cam, use spell check lol!

i would go the centerforce route. ive had a few of them and they have all been good and worth the coin. however if you are constanly beating on your truck, i would think about changing your driving habbits too. or if you dont want to give it up, get a stock one so you wont wast 300 bucks. it sucks but you cant have your cake and eat it too.

as for a flywheel i would maybe find a used one and have it taken in and milled. if you dont like it after you can always use the one you have. not evryone likes aftermarket ones or lightend ones.
