Icon5 Axle Shaft

I've been holding off since I hit a curb sideways in the winter to replace my right rear axle shaft. I know its not hard to do but should I get the OEM or an aftermarket?

OEM- F87z-4234-ac

Aftermarket- 99-05 Ford Ranger Right Rear Axle Shaft 7.5 8.8 28 spl:eBay Motors (item 310129759629 end time Jun-16-09 07:48:00 PDT)

i say oem and stay away from the ebay stuff. if youre looking for cheaper look at napa if you are near one. they got me an axle shaft kit, with the bearing, axle shaft, seal and wheel studs for my wifes blazer for less than $150

Tried with Napa and they said its a dealer item, the bearing and everything is good but the plate that holds the studs is tweaked.

I'm pretty sure I have one down here if you feel like driving. I'm a little over an hour south of Burlington, we could even install it here if you want.

Would it matter guys if the shaft is used? I dont know much with the trucks but I know when I had my Impreza Outback Sport I bought a used axle shaft for the rear and it was the problem for the bearing to go cause it was used.

I don't think it's even possible to wear out a shaft, so used should be no issue.
These are OEM, and are straight. I just need to get a measurement from them to confirm they are Ranger shafts as I had some Aerostar shafts from a axle break in Centralia a LONG time ago.
As for cost, I'd be happy if I got 30 bucks, might even give you the other shafts as we now have a 31 spline......or trade for stuff.

Sure do. I'm 99% sure it is a Ragner shaft, but I'll measure tomorrw. Worst case I'm pulling the 8.8 out of the wreck so I can pull a shaft from that.

I gotta pull the shaft to confirm, I know it's 27 1/4" but not sure if they measure flange to end/end of splines, etc. I know I have the right shaft in my wreck, so if you give me a heads up I can pull that one. Bottom line, I have the shaft you need.

If the shaft was bent I'd do it for sure. Bearing might not even be a bad idea depending how bad it was bent.

Downside to the C clip is that you have to pull the cover and pin to do any seal/bearing work. Might as well do as much as you can while it's apart.
