Bad transfer case?
Hi,
Im new to the forum but i have a 2000 4x4 3.0 with 125,xxx miles. Heres the story so i was ice fishing and truck was on the lake. Got it stuck for a few minutes. put it in 4 wheel drive. Still cant get out, have it in drive still, foot off the brake. and step outside, tires are still spinning, Hear a chain drive noise. No way else to explain it. But does not do this when i put my foot on the gas only when tires were spinning on the lake. Any ideas on what it is? thanks!

Welcome to the forum
You need studded tires to be on the ice, but I am sure you realize that now :)
Carry a few bags of sand until you get them
I assume at least 1 front tire is spinning when in 4WD???
If you hear the chain then it is probably looser than it should be, shouldn't break or anything.
The lack of traction causes the chain to go slack and then tighten up causing the noise, which is why you wouldn't normally hear it
