Transmission Swap need pics/info
Im still in the research stage of auto to manual swap in my 2003 ranger. I have not been able to find any rangers in my year range to take a peek at so my question is would anyone be able to get some pics under the dash and maybe the firewall i need to see how the actuator for master cylinder comes through the firewall. Also the connection to the pedals so i can see what hardware i need. I don't have a local pick and pull so i need a whole list of parts for the local junkyard cause he wont let me see beforehand its all pulled and on shelves any help is appreciated. Also if anyone knows i cant find the clutch switch tucked away anywhere under the dash would my logic be right in thinking i can just leave the gear sensor from the auto plugged in and in park to allow it to start? I will be splicing in the reverse and speed sensors to the auto harness so that plug will still be there.
thanks for any help

This will help you greatly.... CLICKY: https://www.ranger-forums.com/projec...al-swap-82820/
It cover's my friend's swap on his '01 4x4 that I was deeply deeply involved in. TONS of info to be found between the conversations and the problems and whatnot. Including a complete parts list.
A couple of things to consider....wiring was a bear and I honestly cannot help you there....it's been like 3+ years. Confusing the computer to think it's in neutral until a manual PCM was installed. PCM either needs replaced with a manual then VIN changed, or your existing changed to a manual....this will eliminate the issues of the 3,000rpm limit.

yeah i have a superchips tuner and I've already removed the rev limiter. And I'm going to get the emissions done next month that way ill have all year to sort everything out so it passes Ive been told the tuner will flash the manual file over the auto on the computer and I'm thinking it will since it asks if its a manual truck anytime i reflash so maybe i can avoid a new PCM but if not no biggie Ive already got one lined up the only problem with a new PCM is if the vins dont match which they wont it might fail if the emissions computer checks the PCM vin but ive already been to GA clean air force and they assure me its no biggie just request a referee test. Supposedly after that i get this special sticker or something that allows it to pass in that configuration.

Having a tuner would be a great help. That's one reason Trevor had a hard time and subsequently said goodbye to the truck (non matching vin #'s). He didn't have a tuner but if he did, I would think the way you're planning on doing it is the way to go.
Try and locate a 2003ish 3.0 manual (2wd?) engine/trans harness. That will make things go super super smooth too. If memory serves me right, the 4wd harness is separate from the engine/trans harness.

Yeah im 2wd only issue is I have the flex fuel which was not offered with the manual transmission in 2003 so i do not have the clutch switch plug or a few other things so i need to keep the auto harness to trick the neutral safety switch. I looked at the wiring diagram and i should be able to just splice the reverse and speed sensors in the pins appear to be the same. I contacted rogue performance today and he said he can just flash my current PCM to remove the auto components which no one else I've talked to could do and that should clear the CEL. It should have no issue passing emissions as long as the light is off and the vins match so ill see what happens. Thanks for the insight this is the first major mod to the truck and mechanically its no big deal to me i can do that part of the swap in my sleep I'm just used to older cars without the computer this is pretty new stuff to me.
