Shift Levers: I can't find answers to these q's:

FX4 Shifter:
1.On what vehicle does it occur naturally? (or am I just spose to know) I'm guessing the 4WD.
2. Does the **** screw on? Push on? Glue on?
3. Is it solid or hollow?
4. If hollow what's the ID?

Stock Shifter 03 Ranger 2WD:
1. Is it solid or hollow?
2. If hollow what's the ID?

FX4 manual shifter:
2002 FX4 Off Road
2003~2007 FX4 Level II.
2008~2009 FX4 Off Road
(Other manual 4x4's from these years use the same shifter found on your 03 2WD)
The shifter is made from a solid tapered rod welded to a lower mount cup with a rubber vibration damper inside. The inside of that rubber damper is bonded to a cast, or perhaps forged, lower mount. The **** screws on and has a M12 x1.75 thread.

Stock Shifter 03 Ranger 2WD:
Most of the shift lever is a hollow, tapered tube with a rubber vibration damper inside the lower part, Similar to the FX4, the inside of the rubber damper is bonded to the lower mount. The shift **** is glued onto a spline formed on the upper part of the tube. None of this shifter assembly is designed to be disassembled but the **** can be removed by tapping upward with a hammer and wooden block.

Either shifter assembly can be removed from the transmission stub by removing the wedge at the bottom. The wedge is extracted by moving the nut to the other side of the wedge and tightening. The FX4 shifter and your 03 2WD shifter are interchangeable.

I can't find my stock shifter pic anywhere. I'll post it if I can find it.
