Borg Warner 1354 interchangeability
So my transfer case is shot, chain has a ton of slack, its making all kinds of noises, clanking, and it hotter than my exhaust after a 20 mile drive. I am going to drop it out later but i know its trashed.
I am on the hunt for another 1354. Wish I had the money for a Stak3 but it will have to wait. lol
So whats gonna work?
Can I run a manual 1354 from an explorer and the speedo will still work? And can I swap the output shafts from my current case to this one so the Driveshafts still work?
I would like to find a 02-03 level2 but chances of that are slim.

Where is your speed sensor now? Mine is on my transmission. If yours is you'll have no problem.
I think there's a couple of different styles of connectors? That's one thing.
The output shafts are all the same, but there are different flanges and they are all interchangeable at the shaft level so shaft changes shouldn't be necessary except flange/yoke swapping from one to the other.
Though as I think of it...that front shaft for the CV type driveshaft might be different?

Yes Drive flanges... That is good that they are all changeable. but i think that front CV is one piece like you mention.
I am leaning more and more to wanting a manual one. I think the speed sensor is in the tail housing... so i guess its on the trans. Must have read some bad info earlier.

On the auto tranny you have the speed sensor is in the tranny itself, not the tailhousing and not the t-case. So yes you could swap in an explorer case and not have to worry about the speedo.
I'm not sure how easy it is to swap the tulip style flange onto the older case, but I've read about it being done before.

Like said above Beard, if you swap in an Explorer manual BW1354 transfer case (which is what I would do if I were you) the speedo is still going to be in the same place; the transmission.
You can still use your front driveshaft with the Explorer manual BW1354. Take the adaptor off your driveshaft (the adaptor that makes it fit the Jeep driveshaft) and it will bolt into the u-joint cups on the BW1354. The rear driveshaft is the same on either t-case.

Ithink im going to get another 1350 and start thinking about a tripler too!
anyways, I had a bad JayWhy day (even with my CO2 tank and air tools!), I am going back again this week, but this time im bringing my torch.
there were numerous explorers I didnt even check, so its actually a really good possibility that I can find more.
I need to start pulling all the "hard to find" sh*t and stockpiling it to sell. my junkyard is absolutely amazing!!
