Need some good advice.
Bought a 2002 Ranger for my son. All seemed well when we drove the unit prior to buying.
Doing routine maintenance as we should on a used vehicle we dropped the pan and changed the filter and fluid. The pan was clean and very little debris on the magnet.
Installed the new filter and added 2-1/2 quarts of trans fluid and some lucas tran conditioner.
The thing slips like crazy now and first thing in the morning when you put it in gear there is no hook up at all.
Is there a band adjustment that can be done? Could it be the torque converter or is time to go shopping for a low mileage used transmission?

2 1/2 plus the one quart of lucas fluid is not enough transmission fluid to fill the pan after a drain. Warm the truck up, take it around the block, and check the tranny fluid with the truck running in park.

 

Thanks pcollins! I was following the info provided in the Haynes Manual. Never did like the Haynes manuals. Always thought Chiltons was better.
I will add fluid and see what I get.

Pretty sure he has no adjustable bands seeing as its an '02...i think the last year for adjusting bands was between 97 and 2000.

I never had a problem with the Haynes books, but autos can be a PITA to check the fluid on seeing as it has to be running temperature, and since the space between the Add and Full lines only takes One PINT (as compared to one QUART in the engine oil) it can be touchy. Gotta be on flat ground. I prefer 5 speeds, myself.
