4x4 to 4x2

I've decided to stick to the streets now so i want to convert my 4x4 to a 4x2 so i can run lift spindles. i know i will need to remove my front drive shaft, my front diff, my cv shafts, but what else would be required to remove so i can successfully run lift spindles?

You'll need new hubs/rotors, bearings and so on.

You're still going to have the weight of the transfer case unless you go all the way and change your transmission tail shaft, extension housing, and get a 4x2 rear driveshaft as well.

You have a 4.0 right? Then I don't think the old 4x2 output shaft and tailhousing will work for you or I'd sell you them cheap. I have a 3.0 and I think the tail shaft is different on the 4.0 in terms of lube holes and what not.

Man I would trade with you in a heartbeat if you think we can get the swap done in a weekend. I'll even travel to where you are. My trucks in great condition, don't beat on it or anything.

Dude, wtf?
It would probably be cheaper and easier to just find a used superlift kit and install it. I think this is the first post I've seen where someone wanted to get rid of their four wheel drive. I don't get it. Less capability, less resale...

Drive out to CA one weekend and you'll leave here with 2wd and lift spindles. I'm serious about that too.....I'll buy you brand new lift spindles, and i have brand new stoptech slotted rotors.

Hmm... 4low with only a rear d-shaft might be kinda fun!

I've always wondered why people with 2wd edges don't run the superlift and just either sell the diff brackets or throw them away... It's virtually the same! Thats the only way to get 4in lift from those 2wd edges... Or am I just blowin smoke outta my a$$? lol

You're blowing smoke......

Theres no way to hold the wheel on using the 4wd knuckles onto a 2wd truck.

Sell it and buy a 2wd... you'll end up with a couple thousand you can spend on lift and wheels/tires if you really want it that bad. I wouldn't do it though.

that wont work either since the fabtech spindles are the same size as stock while the superlift/rcd knuckles are taller

Converting from 4wd to 2wd will also DECREASE the value of your truck. Converting just to save a FEW, if that, mpg's is nuts. The amount of value that will be lost in your truck is nuts; not to mention that you will more than likely NEVER be able to sell it since it would be highly modified. If you are worried about mpg, then you shouldn't have EVER said you wanted to convert it to 2wd and then lift it.

Save the money for a Superlift or sell your truck and buy a 2wd. Simple as that.

Actually, If you trade it in at a dealership, they will run the vin and show its a 4x4. So unless the dealership is smart enough to test out the 4x4 setup, they will pay you for a 4x4 ranger trade in

And how is swapping 4x4 to 4x2 highly modded? Thats a STOCK option

you are correct that 2wd is a stock option, BUT if you swap to a 2wd that is a large modification to the vehicle. Do you think you can find anything else to argue with me over? Get over yourself.

I don't know what dealership you go to, but they usually put used vehicles up on the rack and have a mechanic look at them to determine their value.
