1995 Ford Ranger shift problem

I just purchased a 1995 Ford Ranger XLT extended cab. Its 2 WD with the 2.3L motor in it. The transmission is a 5 speed transmission. The clutch needed a new slave cylinder so I replaced it and used Royal Purples transmission fluid for it. The truck when taken off the lift and test driven shifts fine in every gear but first. When you go to place the truck in to first gear with the engine running or even off, you push it up in first it freezes and than goes into first. Sort of like a rough shift point, would it be something with linkage?

Re-bleed the slave cylinder.
