Changing gears in manual transmission

Ford sales brochure and me buying a 94 when they were new, and looking at all possible combinations available (including new STX) and me calling Ford for confirmation that the brochure was correct. Unless a guy bought the 3.0/auto or 2.3/stick in 4x4, then you could have 4.10's with the 7.5" carriers. Me still has that sales brochure in a box around here.
On edit: Might wanna check #87, it's showing 7.5" open 4.10.

You might want to have someone who has done it before help you. doing axle gears isn't easy. off the top of my head i can't think of anything you'll need special tool wise.

Which transmission do you have? You didn't mention the year Explorer you got it out of, but I'm guessing it's an M50D-R1. There are a couple of different first, second, and third gear ratios that you might have, , and if it's from and Explorer, it's got the numerically lower gears.
1st.....2nd.....3rd....4th.....5th
3.40...2.05...1.31...1.00...0.79
3.72...2.20...1.50...1.00...0.79
To guys that have never heard of regearing transmissions, it's not uncommon in cars. Most transmissions on the market have different variations based on the vehicles they're used in. People have researched them to customize their gear ratios to improve performance. Usually in a car, people are trying to get closer ratios, to keep the engine in the power band most of the time.

well i already got the gears and want to put them in but i havent gotten a set of 33's yet and i need good gas mileage because i do a lot of driving so i think ill wait to put the gears in for a while until i get the tires. last weekend i picked up a 89' F250 Extended Cab 4x4 with a 351 C6 in it so i now have something to haul stuff.
