Factory Trac-Lok

Hey guys, my 04 4.0 4x4 has an open rear end (I hate it) and I was wondering if you have any reccomendations on the best place to get a new stock limited slip? I dont do a lot of serious wheeling so I dont really want a locker. I'm mostly looking for something that will help me get going a little better in the snow and rain and I am thinking the stock L/S will be best for me. Any reccomendations on where to get one? Also, my truck has 90k on it so I am thinking of getting new bearings ect, for the rear end since its going to be apart anyways. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Summit has a great price on them. Or check ranger/mustang forums for them used or rebuilt or sometimes new.

Hmm, It looks like for some reason summit only has the 31 spline one right now. I will have to do some more checking

Or you could get a detroit true-trac limited slip that is gear driven, with no clutches to wear out. More expensive but a better long term option.

but expense is surely a factor, when he said he doesn't want to go locker, as it's not going to be put to much use, i don't even think he needs a torsen, just regular l/s, if it's an 8.8, mustang 5L's should fit, and they are EVERYWHERE esp jy... (sadly said, as i own one)

Are you certain that your diff is "open"? I thought that all the 4 liter Rangers came stock with the l/s diff.

you can get a clutch pack kit for the stock l/s for like $50, and it's pretty easy to install yourself.

x2 on the tru-trac. if I was gonna spend money for a new unit, it wouldn't be on a factory style l/s

yep i second and third the detroit true trac

when it comes to differential carrier stoutness ( do not be cheap )
pay the extra money and get a tough and quality product
