Clutch Pedal stiffness & Tranny noise question

Hi, y'all.

Just joined the forum, and I have a lot of questions! I got my 2003 ranger in '05 with 65k miles on it. Now it has almost 143 k.

I recently had the clutch and slave, and master cylinders replaced. The thing is, i had to have the clutch and slave cylinder replaced twice within the span of 2 months. After the 1st replacement, the clutch pedal was much much stiffer than before. Extremely stiff!

After a couple of months I was losing pressure in the pedal, and it was getting harder to push the shifter into gear. The mechanic said the store brand pressure plate i bought from O'Riley was so stiff that it tore the release bearing from the slave cylinder so much that i couldn't completely disengage the clutch. He found a luk clutch for less than the one i bought, and now the pedal is softer than ever, and shifts smoother than ever. I was amazed. I wanted to share this story in the hopes of hearing some related ones.

Also, I noticed that when the shifter is in gear, it has a little side to side wiggle/play. Is that normal? I also have a continuous noise coming from somewhere in the drive train (i can feel it in the shifter). It sounds like the noise you hear when a cd player turns a cd after you just put it in. It only stops when i press the clutch pedal, before i push the shifter into gear. Where could it be coming from?
