It's been a while since I've posted but just thought I would let everyone know that if you have a 01+ 4x4 and you need a new hub assembly don't get Timken! I just finished warrantying my previously warrantied hubs. So that means im on my 4th set of hubs and my truck only has 65k on it! I don't know what the problem is with my truck that it eats hubs for breakfast!

 

have anything to do with the 35s?

 

timken makes a very good product, i just replaced my original drivers side hub bearing at 186k and i have had 33s for about 30k miles. if you have imbalanced tires, poor alignment or an agressive tire, thats gonna shorten their life, especially if you wheel it

 

im sure the 35's have alot to do with it. also, do you torque the axle nut on when you replace the bearing or do you use an impact? if you use an impact you will damage the unit. good luck finding a better quality bearing unit than timkin.

We torque them every time...it's getting ridiculous! At least they have a warranty!

Yeah I'm on 33's and a bodylift now, the 35's caused one side to go at 40k or so, then since being on 33's this will be my 3rd set of timkens. so that makes 7 total hubs that my truck has already ate! lol but yeah im lovin the warranty atleast.. and vansnxtweek hope ur enjoying the lift, truck looks good.

 

I replaced both my front hubs a year ago and I haven't had any problems. I have an 02 XLT

 

huh...strange...

my STOCK OEM to the truck(Which are Timkin's) lasted me 120k, and about 50k of that on 35's and steelies and another 20k with steelies and 32's.. I just changed them this past weekend after one started growling on me.

Timkin has always been top notch for me and i'm not just talking about my Ranger either. What's up with the rest of your truck? How's that caster and toe?

Hey don't mean to thread jack, but thought I'd quickly ask: What did the growling sound like, and when did it happen? I kind of have that happen when I apply the brakes, they were just replaced 13k ago (the brakes). I had a feeling its the front wheel bearings, but don't feel like replacing it and being wrong.

 

The "growling" id say would sound similar to running mud grapplers on the highway at 10psi + some vibration lol... mine gets real loud anywhere below 40mph and vibrates a lot braking below 15mph..

 

Yeah I dont know whats causing my problems with them, i havent wheeled the truck at all with my current hubs, and i got the alignment all squared away, retards at tires plus couldnt figure out the camber so i gave it to ricky (jrpro130) for about 10 min and he fixed it, and ever since ive had it aligned every 3-4 months and its always in the green..

 

What kevooo said is right. But I'd also add that when one goes, you'll know it. When making a under 25mph turn towards the bad bearing, it'll "rumble" and you can feel the vibrations in your steering wheel. Doesn't feel comfortable at all. Park it, you can see the horrible camber(my pics below). If left alone, it'll do this...would suck if it finally goes while you're doing 65...

my truck is completly ****ed.. cv's are broke so i took em out, tierods are both shot, inners and outters, ball joints are mega ****ed and brakes are about done, haha front end needs some lovin.. and soon

I haven't checked the play in mine with the truck jacked up yet, but I'm sure its pretty close to that video on both sides lol.. funny thing is i took it a week ago for an alignment and they didn't even notice, gotta love tires plus!
