Dana 35 quick Q

i have my front diff currently laying in the garage, the truck on jack stands and the CV shafts wrapped in ziploc bags...
that was a pain.. but not too bad
one quick question though..

i want to throw new gears. 4.56 in the front while i have it off so i dont have to go through w/ that whole deal again w/ dropping it.. so i was looking around for the gears, and i found some. but whats to know about the reverse cut gears? i have seen on here that the front D35 is a regular cut gear, but in BIG letters on the pumpkin, it says REVERSE....
whats the verdict on that?... and can i drive my truck w/ no front diff? or do i need to put it back in?

Thanks
-Matt

EDIT: im also going to have to pull the CV shafts if i drive w/o a diff, whats the trick to those?

if you pull the CVs to drive it you will ruin the boots on the CVs. so that is a no go. maybe it can be done without any CVs? but then again you will get dirt in the hub.

Our diffs are a Standard Cut normal rotation D35, same as the rear of a Jeep with a D35.

I'm not sure what that "REVERSE" means on the side ? ?

you can run without the front diff BUT, BE SURE TO PUT THE CV STUBS BACK INTO THE HUBS.

the hubs are press fit, running without something clamping it, aka holding it together will explode the hub and cause your wheel to fall off.

reverse cut means the gears are cut in a reverse wear pattern from the rear gears...trust me, if you put standard cut gears in they won't work, or if they do, they won't work long

hes not asking if you want to, hes asking if its okay. Its perfectly fine as long as you secure the wheel hubs...

ummmmmm i do believe you are WRONG! the Dana 35's in the '98+ Rangers had standard rotation gears.....the '97 and older Dana 35's had the reverse rotation gears..........

next time please do a search before you post the wrong info....

Rob i don't think he was getting pissy.

and yes it is a standard rotation, if it wasn't then i would have some serious issues in the front diff of my truck!

iv done gears in the front of my ranger and zabeards... both are STANDARD CUT D35(98+).... wow iv even done lifted97ranger's front gears.. he is REVERSE CUT D35(97 and previous)

for every1s info.. low pinion on the front diff uses STANDARD CUT and high pinion uses REVERSE CUT

and the proper terms is CUT not ROTATION.. they all rotate the same direction

standard cut D30... i got to thinkin.. it would be far cheaper to just buy 456 for the front of it instead of buyin my 488s and then buyin 488s for the rear, as my rear 488s prob wont be aval till next summer somtime
