Front diff PLATE!

OK this might sound stupid but....heres the story.

Bought the ranger in january and i had noticed the rear pinion seal was leaking so i brought it into ford for warranty and they checked it out and said yup its leaking, ( Like that was hard to figure out) so the following day they replaced it and no more leaking, Two months later i noticed it was pissen fluid out and its only 100kms past warranty, so we bring it back and hes like oh well your cost, and i said it was just friggen well replaced by this dealer so they looked into it again and said yup its leaking and said we'll cover it, and i asked the good ole question... What would make a seal blow in 2 months.. they said user abuse, and this truck get highway everyday and the odd mudd job once a month. At this point i wasnt exactly pleased witht he situation and they came back to tell me the yoke had scared and warped, now how the hell does that happen?? no idea they say and OH theres water in your diffs..im thinken what the hell is going on there trying to accus me of sinking the truck in water and leaving it there so now im REALLY PO'd! and want to kill some techs..and they wanted 150$ a diff to change the fluid i said screw that i can get amsoil the additives and the silcone for 210 . So after a bit of a disagreement they took care of all the charges. so i got home after picken up the fluid and start my few hour job of rippen the diff plates off and cleaning the gears andall the fun stuff.. the rear was simple as pie but the front got me boggled.. theres one bolt ( if lookin at the front of the truck ) on the top right hand side there looks like its gonna hit the cross member and ford wont tell me how to get it off until i bring the truck to them to get it done.. so now im stuck here trying to figure out how to get the bolt out and im hoping one of you guys will know..you all have been a great help to me and hopefully one day ill bebale to get downt ehre for a meet!

Recently went thru the same dilema..... The front diff cover is SO close to the crossmember the upper bolts are a little tedious to access.... Decided to consult my FSM to see if I was making the job harder than it should be.....
To my surprise..... the FSM says that you suck the gearlube out thru the filler hole with a GIANT cyringe and then refill it thru the same hole.
Took me about 15 mins to draw out about 95% (compared against the amount required to fill in the FSM).
To replace the carrier, bearings, gears or pull the axles.... it appears you will need to lower the differential to access the 3rd member....

just out of curiosity, how did someone quote you $210 for amsoil!! even the most expensive stuff retails for $12.20 a quart x6 is $73.20, plus 2 slip locks is $13.50

i would have sold it all to you for $86.70!! whoever told you 210 is smoking something...
