now, my question is, will my rear diff (torsen) fit in my front housing? i read somewhere i need an open diff for a locker, and figured i could kill 2 birds with 1 stone, get a torsen up front, and a locker in the rear without needing any extra parts... does this make sense? will this work?
to the no
. lol. They're two completely different axles all together, man. Both require their own specific parts. Rear axle is a Ford 8.8"
. Front axle is a Dana 35
(sometimes called an M35 too).
Torsen has released and/or is going to be releasing a front IFS D35
limited slip very soon. But I haven't heard when. They just recently debuted the production piece in November at the '09 SEMA show.
What you've got in the back is a Torsen T2 limited slip differential. If you want something different back there, it requires a new carrier/differential. The Torsen IS the carrier/differential. You may have heard the term "lunchbox lockers"? These only work inside an Open differential and select limited slips(like the Ford Traction Loc). All other lockers and limited slips are full carrier replacements.
