Detroit True-Trac

I am looking for a locker, I would like a selectable locker, but it's not in the budget. I've found it for only $380 at 4WP.

Anyone ever had any experience with the True-Trac versus the actual Detroit Locker?

the true-trac is a limited slip unit and it is a full carrier replacement which means the gears will need to be setup when it is installed, which is more money unless you have experiance with setting up gears... depending on what axle you have you can look into different drop in lockers which replace the spider gears in the carrier and can be installed in your driveway with no special tools. there is the lock-right, the no-slip, and the aussie locker as the big 3 for drop in lockers and the no-slip is probly the most smooth one of the 3. the full detroit locker again is a full carrier locker which would require the gears being setup for it to be intalled.

I have a 8.8" 28spline, so the true-trac is actually a limited slip? that's what I have now... I'll look into some of the other ones, thanks!

Yes it is basically the same thing that is in the Level II. If you have a limited slip now you will have to either buy a new open carrier and install a lock-right or buy a full carrier locker.

actually they make a lock-right and a no-slip drop in locker for the 8.8 limited slip carrier just like the 8.8 open carrier.

ok, i have the traction-lok or w/e ford calls it, and it has failed me twice now when i needed it most, but i can still do burn outs.. but w/e idc about that

anyways, 4WP has 3 lockers from detroit, True Trac, Soft Locker and C-Locker, what are the differences? and how much different is a True Trac (the l/s one?) from the one i have? Ford 8.8" 28 spline 4.10 Factory L/S
my other option is spend $60 + shipping and re packing the bearings... how would that compare to a detroit?

i dont want to spend hundreds of dollars and not have it work perfectly.. well near perfect

A bit of an old thread.. but I've had a TT before. It was such an awsome peice that I bought one for my lightning. It's on the bench now and will go in when I get a chance.

Now I did'nt use in it a off road situation. But with one wheel on ice and the other on dry ground, the car takes off as if it had a locker. No matter how hard you push the gas!
