M50D-R1 Fluid Replacement

Hey guys,

I want to replace the fluid on my transmission (It is almost a couple of years old). I've done my research about what type of fluid to use on my manual transmission (M50D-R1), and I found that I have to use Mercon ATF.

Now, onto the big question:
Will Castrol Dex/Merc Domestic Multi-Vehicle fluid work for the M50D-R1? (That's what my local AutoZone sells, and according to the AZ guy, that's what Rangers use...)

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

Truck specs:
2003 Ranger 2WD / 2.3L DOHC / Manual 5 speed Mazda M50D-R1

If that fluid is wrong, what should I look for and where could I get it? Any input/feedback is welcome...

Any automatic transmission fluid that meets Mercon specification will work. Mercon V is synthetic and that is what i have used in all of my Madza manual transmissions

that would work. personally i use pennzoil syncromesh fluid. ive tried various differnt a.t.f's over the years in my M5OD and found no real difference between them. even tried type F fluid once. now for the transfer case, i use mobil 1 synthetic atf.

If your truck has pulse vacuum hubs or auto hubs it will have an electronic clutch coil in the transfer case (one brown wire). If you have this, you do not want to put synthetic fluid in the transfer case

Truck is 2wd, so no transfer case to worry about...

Run Mobil 1 ATF in my 5-Speed, changed it with 809 miles on it. Did the same with the power steering fluid also.
