4x4 Tailhousings and OSS
Can anyone tell me if the pad (flat spot) for the tailhousing OSS sensor (used in manual trucks) is cast (drilled or not) on the '01+ 4x4 tail housings used on auto transmissions?
I'm going to do a 4x2 to 4x4 swap with my manual transmission and a manual transfer case. I know the manual tailhousings are hard to come by, especially with the extra threaded bosses for the linkage (not related to my question). So I'm looking to see if I can drill a tailhousing from an auto setup for the OSS. Thinking I'll make a shift linkage bracket that bolts to the transmission and transfer case mounting bolts.

Provided they're the same and there's the undrilled spot in the casting, why can't a hole be drilled? I have access to a full machine shop.

Thats the problem. They are not the same, I've had both side by side. You'll have to either make a bracket or get the correct housing, no way around it.

The sensor itself is a different sensor and they are not interchangeable between auto and manual. I've tried. lol.
I'm not quite understanding what you're asking......the tailhousing is cast aluminum with machined flanges and machined sensor hole. Auto tailhousings and manual tailhousings are different and are not interchangeable. Will not bolt onto eachother.
BTW, I've posted pics over at Ranger-Forums in a member's thread showing a guy over at TRS and his tcase bung bracket he made that bolts to the tcase mounting bolts. RF member's name is MossyOak something something and he's asking about twin sticking. I'll post this reply if you posted this thread over at RF.

Found my post w/ a link and pics....
The guy is building a 4.0L SOHC/M5od BroncoII an is using 06 XLT components and a older 1354M.

I built my bracket for the X-case shifter today, also added a little "bling" to the shifters.
Threw the X-case on the tranny as a mock up to make sure everything would work correctly, and all looked good. Tomorrow Im going to throw the X-case in the solvent tank and clean it up a bit more. Also hopefully I can get my hands on some ABS and fill the large hole in my heater box.
Maybe Ill be able to get this engine in permanently this week, I guess Ill cross my fingers.
