There's an m50d r1 and an m50d r1hd...it would probably be nice to know which you have...year and engine would help.

i think you would have problems finding a clutch strong enough to hold 300 horses for that dinky transmission. idk though not an expert.

So would doing a v8 swap and swaping trannys be a better idea than force feeding the 2.5l with30lbs of boost

Transmissions handle Torque, not Power. You need to understand that first.

You won't be able to run 30lbs of boost. Turbo newbies think boost=power. Every compressor has a different compression map, 30psi on one map may be the same amount of flow as 20 psi on another. Stick with the stock engine until you learn. I don't go pulling wires out of my TV and modifying it, reconnecting things as I please... why? Because I don't understand how it works- same reason why you should leave your truck stock.

but it goes without saying that if i want to know how much power it can handle then im also asking about the torque since they go hand and hand, it isnt an electric car and nothing but torque.

No. Horsepower comes from Torque and RPM.

You entire statement implies that you don't understand what your talking about. I laugh when I hear "oh how much boost does that thing run" because when people are impressed with that it just shows they don't understand anything about Turbo-Muscle.

Boost is like voltage. Air flow is like Current.

You can rub your feet on the carpet, generate 30,000V and shock someone by touching them with your finger. On the other hand, it only takes an amp or so near your heart to kill you.

More airflow means more air molecules, which means more fuel molecules can be added for the result of more cylinder pressure given that there is an drivetrain that can reliably bear the shear stress caused. IE 14psi on a 3586 is much more flow than even 25psi on a 2871. I laugh when people turn up the boost on small turbochargers and brag about boost numbers. High boost on a small turbo means high backpressure, and high EGT's, which all mean you have to run richer, and retard timing - which causes even higher EGTs.

I don't know about blueolds but I like to learn by doing instead of watching tv.

I'll concede that im not an expert on boost or anything automotive for that matter, but i am not a newb im sorry i cant be like you and born with infinite knowlegde, the reason i started this thread was so i can learn, before i do anything to the truck which wont be for another year or two, is that so wrong?

X2 i learn by using my hands, i didnt learn how to put the subs in my car reading a book, i asked my dad about it and we installed them together and i learned about it. Same thing applys to anything else i do to my vehicles hell i did a motor swap on a stupid izuzu trooper in my firstyear of highschool even though i had very basic knowledge on cars, but in doing so i gained experience.

It's not wrong to ask. You have to understand that this question gets asked a lot and it seems the point never gets across. But you're new to the forum, so don't sweat it.

A little research goes a long way in the automotive world.

No one was born with infinite knowledge, I learn something everyday it seems. After being here awhile you'll know what I mean

I've learned a lot just by trying something or watching my friends do stuff.

I see where your coming from, when i frist got the alero i knew nothing about it, but after getting on some forums asking newb questions it seems i know the car top to bottom. It is kinda frustrating when you dont completely understand something and you ask a question about it and all of a sudden everything you know turns out to be wrong
