7.5 to 8.8 rear end question

Ok this question has been asked before but i for the life of me couldnt find the thread it was in. i have a 96 regular cab ranger that i finaly got the money up to switch the rear end out... What year rangers 8.8 will be a direct bolt in option??? and would i need to switch out the shocks.. Id rather not if i didnt have to as i will be replacing them this summer when i lift it...

Thx Joe

You can get a 28-spline 8.8 from any 90+ 4.0 Ranger and it will bolt right on. No new shocks. All you need is gear oil, and the u-bolts and backing plates.

Wont need backing plates 7.5 and 8.8 28 spline use the same backing plate.I just did the swap last week.Well worth finding a l/s axle with low miles so you wont have to replace the l/s clutches. The axle i got came out of a 09 with 17k miles.

Whoops. Duh, I forgot that when I did mine I went to 31-spline so I had to. My bad yeah all you need is the gear oil.
