HubLock /bearing question

This question concerns a previouse post

My 4x4 hub locks are vacume actuated type 1998
one hub lock is missing on the drivers side.
I notice it in the winter, while replacing rotors and pads.
I disconnected and plugged the vacume lines ,going to the bearing assembly
and my plan was to just buy manual hub locks when I got the money
There is no wear in the wheel bearing itself
But I noticed that there is a lots of play in the CV shaft that runs through
the bearing assembly( I can move it around about 3/8 s in any direction!
is this normal without the hublock inplace ?? thanks for any advice

the cv shaft is only held in by a plastic clip. it will have some freeplay and it will have less when you put a new hub on. you might want to block off your vacume lines so when you do eventualy use 4x4 you wont suck up mud.
