05 mustang 4.0 overheating help

i was driving car running fine drove maybe 10miles came to a light and antifreeze started spraying everywhere. let the car cool down started and drove fine for 10min then it started bouncing off the red and then back to normal on and off every min or so . its leaking from the thermastat would a sticky thermastat cause this? i just went to auto zone and bought one for 14 bucks. hoping it fixes the problem.

Check the belt tensioner , make sure it moves and not frozen in one position.
Does the fan turn by hand with a little resistance ?
If not , maybe a bad fan clutch.

Your car has a plastic t-stat housing... They crack... Your local dealer should have one with a new t-stat and sensor already installed... Call em up.
