Filling my rear diff question

Just doing research about installing my 8.8. im curious as to why almost every thread i read, people fill the diff up when its on the truck...why doesnt anybody fill it up when they have it off the truck? is there any negatives to this because the diff isnt lined up with the drive shaft?

cant i just fill it completely when its off the truck, and let any excess drip out when its mounted on the truck? also, does anybody know the diff fluid i should use for an 08 ranger 8.8 l/s rear end? it'll save me some searching

you mount it in the truck first and have it on the ground so it can be filled to the proper level
