Where should the clutch be on the pedal??

Where should the clutch be on the pedal??

When leting off the clutch pedal where should the clutch start to grab?? i know on old cable systems as the clutch moved to to floor, but i cant remember if it the same or opposite on hydrolic systems or if it even matters on hydrolic systems where the clutch grabs on the pedal. Just for info sake mine is grabing right at the top of the pedal, which for some reason makes me think i should be saving for a new clutch.

yes if im correct..the less you have to press the older and worn out it is..there should be an adjustment on the clutch by the tranny on the cables but thats just riggin it id be savin up for a new one..

high pedal + hydrolic system = start saving.

Ford's got mine right now. The main symptom for me though was the clutch feeling like a hot knife through butter when I let the truck sit for a week while out in NY. Pressure built back up, but I wasn't feeling the grab until around 1 or 2 inches away from having the pedal out. I was told yesterday that I need a new slave (not surprised). I'm going to try for getting that covered by extended warranty.

I have had 6 rangers now and all of them have been in the 1/2 to 3/4 range from the floor. You can check it by putting the trans in 5th gear and setting the e brake and just let the clutch out. It should die instantly with no hesitation. Or you can do it old school and giver a good old powershift but its very hard on the trans.

what i did is i was rolling in second gear at about 1500-1600 rpm and i pressed the clutch pedal, shifted it into 4 and dumped the clutch, the rpms dropped like stone, so i figured that there has to be some meat left on it, and yes it dies instantly then in gear with the e-brake on, but thats in reverse and 1st so tommarow i will try it in 5th and see. I would say the clutch starts releasing about 3/4's of the way up maybe a smig higher.

the height of where the pedal grabs has NO indication of the condition of the clutch in a hydraulic system. the hydraulic system is fully self adjusting so no matter the condition of the clutch if will always grab in the same place unless there is a problem in the hydraulic system. normally in rangers the clutch tends to grab high, almost at the top of the stroke.
