downshifting hard...

downshifting hard...

i was going 60 on the way home tonite...and i let off the gas...and about 1 second after i let off, my truck dropped from 2k RPM to about 1.3kRPM....along with 2 rather loud bellows from the turn down exhaust...

is this normal downshifting or is something up?

i repeated this several time and each time it did the exact same thing....

maybe not enough back pressure and you had some unburned fuel in there too

yeah...i recently put in my un-modified airbox and silencer....i never ever noticed it with my modded one

and my exhaust is just a flowmaster 40 series on stock pipes except for a 2" turn down

also there is a semi-hard jolt each time the exhaust makes a bellow....

Well, that's definately not a downshift. If your truck downshifted itself, the RPM's would shoot way UP.

dude when i down shift right now the rpms stay up i miss my truck jerking me around cause when i'd down shift going threw the na-bor hood.. it'd pop and all kinds of good stuff to wake up the old folks

yea...since i put the offroad y-pipe on i love downshifting even more then i did when i had the cat back flowmaster 40 with pre 2.5" pipes and 2.25" pipes after the muffler. if you have a 4.0L i recomend my settings.

I got an auto so.... yeah... i dont want my truck to sound like it has bad gas... and have to drop beano into the tank... so imma just go with the layout i have in my head...

Um and i got a question... X pipes are legal right?

As per previous comments, your truck upshifted, which it will do when you back off the gas after accelerating to a higher speed like that. It sounds like you went into overdrive and your torque converter locked up in quick succession.

Why would your engine "bellow"? Not sure I understand that phenomena in this context. The exhaust note should drop a bit in pitch as the RPM drops. It's possible that you have a "resonance" in your exhaust system, which is VERY common, and that you hit that resonance at the RPM range you dropped into.

yes they are completely legal as long as the cats stay on. and my truck sounds good not like some ricer or 4-banger. as soon as i can get a clip ill get it on here

X-pipes are for true dual systems and the Ranger doesn't have one of those.

all you need for true dual is two exhaust manifolds or headers attached to the engine. this is everybody that doesnt have an inline engine. so you can put an x-pipe on a ranger.

But to be an X it has to have TWO outlets that go somewhere. I have yet to see any Ranger with a true dual exhaust.

i ws trying too do that but you cant... it has 2 headers yes, but it goes into one cat... The way the O2 sensers are set up, you can only run one cat...

Meaning that an X pipe is a waste of time and will do nothing. It's intended to have an effect based on the dynamic pressure differences between the two sides of the engine in two separate pipes with two separate exits. If you haven't got that, you have no need of a crossover pipe.
