changing manual fluid to synthetic?

i bought a 94 ranger back in early july with 163,000 miles on it...i changed the tranny fluid and just put regular atf in it but i feel like the shifting is rough, expecially between 1st and 2nd, and 2nd and 3rd.

now i am thinking of draining it 2 months later and going with synthetic atf.
will mobil 1 sunthetic be ok or should i go for amsoil?

and will it give me smoother shifts?

thanks....any help is appreciated.

i got much smoother shifts with amsoil and changing your fluid again might be a good thing since it would basically be a tranny fluid flush... you should change your t-case fluid as well

well guys, i used mobil 1 synthetic atf, i found the Transfer case but could not get the 4 bolts loose in order to drain and refill it.

time will tell if i notice smoother shifting in her....i'll let everyone know.

thanks.

took truck out today for a drive. i cant beleive it but i definately did notice a difference in the shifting.....it was much smoother.

i had a gutt feeling about synthetic doing this but it is true........much better.

too bad there is nothing this simple we could do to the 3.0 to make is accelerate better.
