Gear indicator broke..

I went to put the truck in park and the gear indicator wire snapped. That little plastic needle that shows what you are in like park, drive, etc; no longer moves..

I can still shift to and from drive and park but it does not show it on the indicator thing!

HELP!

2002 2.3L with the 5 speed auto,,

you don't need it!

I drove my buddy's 79 F-250 all weekend last weekend and he doesn't have a shift selector, all I did was count the clicks outta park and went off of that like that.

How did you manage that? I wouldn't let anyone else drive your truck until its fixed.

So get out your Sharpie pen , mark on the steering column where the lever sits in park , move it to reverse (you can tell when the truck starts to move backwards) , then neutral make another mark at the base of the lever , and so on till the lever don't go down no more .
When you get done you should have 5 little hash marks , one for each position ,Then starting at the top just label them in the same order as the indicator on the dash .
See how easy it is to fix these things ?

Its a thin copper wire. Im guessing 22 awg.

IMHO, you dont need it in the short term. Buy the part off ebay and swap it in. Sometimes you see the wire on cluster or columns for sale.
