Transmission Issue

2007 Ford Ranger 4.0L 4x2 Automatic Transmission

About a month ago my sister in law had coolant in her transmission and the truck would not move/shift at all. Took it to her normal mechanic and they said replacing the radiator and a transmission flush might fix it. Around $800…

Got the truck back and is obviously not shifting smoothly but not terrible.

Took it for a test drive with her yesterday and there is at least 5 seconds from Reverse till it will shift into Drive (some lag shifting into reverse to begin with). When it shifts it is a very hard shift and the whole truck shutters. Once driving everything is fairly normal can feel a few of the shifts but nothing like R to D.

Is there any hope for this transmission or just prepare for a rebuild? Anything we can check? So far no lights on the dash. Truck has about 90k on it.

She is driving this 80 kilometers a day to work and back.

You have a 5R55E transmission, if you want to look at common problems.

I would run it a 100 miles or so and then change fluid and filter again.

Add LubeGard Red after changing, it is a Ford approved additive.
Or you can add it now and see if it makes a difference

More than likely it will need to come out, rebuild or exchange, but fluid and filter aren't that much at if you do it yourself
