Gear won't shift

I just replaced the transmission fluid and the transmission filter on my 93 4.0 automatic.

It shifted into every gear before but now I have to let off the gas on 1st gear to get it into 2nd. Every other gear shifts smooth, any ideas?

1993 will be an A4LD trans so only has computer shift control for OD(3/4 shift)

Check fluid level.
Could be you have some air in the system that hasn't been pushed out yet

'93 A4LD may still have vacuum modulator on passenger side, if it does make sure there is no trans fluid in that hose and that the hose is air tight, holds a vacuum.

Thank you I will check it out after work, I'm pretty sure it does have a vacuum modulator!

I replaced the vacuum modulator and it is still doing the same thing, any ideas?

Does the vacuum hose hold vacuum?

On the drivers side of transmission is a 3 wire connector just above the pan towards the front of trans.
That is the hook up for the torque converter lockup and 3/4 shift(OD) solenoids.

Make sure the connector is tight.

When you had the pan off these solenoid wires are exposed, could you have disturbed them?

Sorry for the late reply, turns out the guy I hired to do the transmission oil change decided to put oil through a hole where a bolt goes because he thought there was no dip stick for the transmission. It ended up throwing some things around in the transmission so I had to get the transmission knocked down to be fixed. Plus he lost the modulator pin so I went through hell trying to find another one!

I found the dipstick and I learned my lesson. I was too lazy to drive 40 mins away to my actual mechanic.
