ive had issue with my brakes since i lifted i wont get into details about because i will go on and on about it anyway i think im better off junking my pads and rotors for new ones so here we go ive been looking around best price i can find is though rockauto i want either slotted of drilled and slotted to be frank i am very very hard on my brakes and the heavy *** 31's on steelies dont help i deliver pizza for a living in a town with 2 stop lights a ****load of stop signs and blind intersections i am constantly on my brakes now we have all that said here is the questions

they sell 2 brands of slotted/cross drilled at rockauto for my truck
centric and royalty
anyone ever run these brands? good,bad ugly im leaning more toward centric's the royalty's give me a bad vib

pads? i want a good pad that wont squeal like a stuck pig im not worried about dust my rims are black and easy to clean and i dont want it to eat my rotors

slotted or slotted and drilled? i know its been asked but look at what they are going to go though on my truck

cryogenically treated worth the extra 20 a rotor?

 

I run the stoptech slotted rotors and my brother ran the stoptech or centric's(both slotted) on his truck that's basically your twish(ish). Both with Centric Posi Quiet pads. Both gained some great newfound braking power and both of us are very pleased with the kits we got from ModBargains.com.

Now...my brother went out and did the extreme brake swap(full cobra brakes), but he did notice a good deal of improvement. I REALLY noticed a good deal of improvement of stopping these steel wheeled 35's. And I came off of brand new rotors and pads and tossed those new parts on.

 

thanks man i just i just grabed the part numbers from modbargin and checked the parts on rockauto 20 bucks cheaper just dont get the brake fluid is the fluid needed with those brakes?

 

nope. the modbargain deal is a deal if the truck has miles on it and the fluid is black like mine was. lol.

 

cool man thanks my fluid isnt bad im almost at 26000 but it still looks good on second though i may change it out anyway when i do the new brakes, rotors and pads come out to 295 shipped though rockauto and 315 though modbargin

also just so i know when the time comes can slotted/drilled slotted be turned?

 

dude...just rockauto it. You only need like a quart of brake fluid.....a qt of syn is only like $5. lol.



I'm not gonna get too into it, but you REALLY don't have any need at all for drilled and slotted. Slotted I like but there's no telling the advantages to a street rig like ours because it could just all be in the pad(the advantages). You're not autocrossing the truck....there's absolutely no need for drilled and slotted. Running drilled you also run the risk of a cracking point because you weakened the rotor when the holes were drilled. I honestly havn't a clue on resurfacability of slotted. I assume you can then clean up the grooves with a file. but IDK.

 

You likely want to avoid drilled/slotted rotors for a truck application... it's not that it can't be done, but the minute advantages (slight improvement in heat dissipation, which, honestly, unless you are autocrossing or something doesn't really apply) are far outweighed by the disadvantages (as mentioned - 1. weakened rotors 2. most shops won't want to resurface them, though it can be done they'd just have to take their time). Drilled/slotted rotors for street cars/trucks are mostly for looks...

I just got done installing EBC slotted and vented rotors with hawk HPS pads on my truck earlier in the week. I am very pleased with the results.

 

No problem, just figured it'd be helpful to hear a couple of opinions on drilled/slotted rotors since it seems to come up on car/truck boards often. Good luck!

 

ok got the rotors in the cart on rockauto just in a delima about pads the new wangner thermo quiet's with edge tecnology or the powerslot ones? hate to ask i know its been asked a thousand times but both are avalible in semi metalic or ceramic

my biggest concern is noise i want my truck to STFU its bad when people are waiting outside for the pizza man because they can hear him a block away

went with the posi quiets 20 bucks cheaper plus i saved another 12 on shipping since rockauto was sending parts from 2 locations
