Rear diff makes noise?

I have noticed after long drives on the freeway or on curvy roads that my rear diff makes a clinky sound if i turn arounrd or go around a tight turrn at low speeds. Does anybody know what this could be? The truck as 187xxx miles on it. it was also a contruction truck hauling heavy loads in the bed often.

Could be that it's got 187,000+ miles on it?!
Nah, my old 1987 Ranger had that happen, and it turned out that the rear diff was leaking very slowly, and only when it got hot. So what was happening was that the gears were starting to grind under certain circumstances. I would, personally, open the hole you fill it with and check for fluid and for metal shavings. Good luck.

Well, I am most certainly no mechanic. Hopefully someone else knows what's what. Best of luck to you!

spider gears in the diff are probably worn out. probably time for a rebuild.

my spider gear cross shaft broke , some times it was noisy sometimes not . It messed up the carrier too, I drove it about 3 months like that. I say open it and look.
