How to improve Limited Slip?

Hey guys, I got a 8.8" 4.10 L/S out of an 05' Ranger Edge and the Limited Slip on this thing sucks! The stock Limited Slip in my 7.5" 3.73 would hold for almost anything except one tire off the ground. I could have one on pavement and the other on snow and spin them both but this thing (the new 8.8) will release one tire if one is on snow and the other on ice . . . I was hoping this thing would be better than my old one. I'm kinda bummed out, muddin season is around the corner and I'm tired of being pulled out in the snow.

Is there anyway to make this thing stronger without swapping a locker or a FX4 L2 31 spline? Thanks guys, I was hoping this new axle would be great for summer off-roading.

you can add more clutches to it and take out some spacers.......for every spacer you take out add a clutch......do the same to both sides....

Rebuild it - kits are readily available. Some people stuff them with an extra plate during the rebuild to tighten them up.

Here's some info on the rebuild and the extra plate mod.

Thanks guys, is this something I can do in my garage or do I need a specialist to do it? I have access to a press but otherwise I only have basic hand/power tools . . . I don't wanna be looking for a 3rd axle. Thanks again!

My truck came with an open diff. I bought a junkyard LS from a Mustang and rebuilt it myself. I bought the heavy duty F150 S spring and the Motorsport rebuild kit. Look HERE for instructions. I built mine with the extra friction and it's been fine for about 14K miles. With the S spring and the extra clutches it's pretty tight.
