Rough shifts from 1st to 2nd

I've got an '06 3.0 auto ext. cab and for the past month it's been shifting roughly from first to second. It's got a 6in lift, 33s, 4.56 gears and an LS. When I baby it during shifts it's smooth but otherwise it's rough. I'm not sure if my foot has gotten heavy on the gas pedal. Or if the tranny fluid should be changed. I've checked the tranny fluid level and it's at the proper level on the dipstick. I did skip my 15k maintence (I'm currently at 20k+) but will get that done this Saturday. I'm not sure why it's shifting rough. Any responses will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

When you checked the tranny fluid did you check the quality of it? Does it smell burn or look dark?

Any offroading? I would say take it to the dealer but they might blame it on the lift and tires.

I go camping often but I wouldn't consider that to be offroading since the roads are mellow. Also, I was thinking the same thing about the dealer blaming the lift and tires.

Well you could have the fluid changed and see what happens. I don't think there is a problem since you re-geared for your tires.

So, maybe it's just my foot that's gotten heavy?

Mine does it too.

Look into getting a shift kit as it really might help. I just ordered mine and getting it installed in the next week.

It could be the suspension reacting to the shift. I wonder if something is loose in the suspension?

btw, your tranny doesn't shift into "2nd" at lite and moderate throttle. It shifts from first to 3rd.

make sure the computer recogizes the tire size change you may need to reflash the computer so it recogizes the tire size and lift. the best thing i can suggest is that swap the automatic out for a manual thats a lot of work but will definitly fix the shifting problem. that and there are several advantages to having a manual. there stronger and there is less power loss through the drivetrain so that equals some what better gas mileage.

Zach- Swapping to a manual is too expensive and overkill IMO. But re-flashing the computer is a good idea. How do I do that on an '06? I'll do a search on the site to see if I can find a How-To but will check this thread to see if anyone has responded with an answer.

Rich - Thanks for schooling me on the auto's shifting pattern. Alos, the suspension isn't loose. I checked that already.

About the only other thing I would know to do is to look at line pressures via a OBD2 device.

You might try dis-connecting the battery, turning on the headlights, turn them off and then reconnect the battery. This should reset the learned tranny shifts.

Otherwise.. tranny shop.
